If you're interested in my research on the brain, brain metabolism, Alzheimer's disease and related topics, this is a great starting point: Google Scholar maintains a list of all my published work - you can see that it's been used by other scientists more than 6000 times.

I have a focus on lifestyle factors that affect brain health (diet, exercise, or caffeine, for example); a second major focus is diseases that impair brain metabolism (in particular, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease - it turns out that most cases of Alzheimer's have their root in one or more lifestyle factors.)


This is a little dated now, but still basically accurate: I gave a TED talk back in 2014 on the links between cognitive function and whole-body health, including factors like diet and exercise.

A little more recent: this is a brief 2019 audio clip from a local NPR show where I discuss the benefits of music for the brain.

BOU is a superb volunteer organisation with goals closely aligned to some of my priorities: supporting teen health, providing resources to address potentially risky behaviors, and an overall goal of improving student well-being.

This is a local volunteer mentor organisation that I am a part of: we support academically-promising students who are looking for assistance and guidance in reaching college and navigating the process.
